I have worked at Good Counsel since March 2006. Spring Valley has always been my home base, but I have had assignments, not limited to the everyday running of the home. As part of my different assignments, I assisted the closing and reopening of Staten Island. I assisted in the closing of PK. I have had assignments in Staten Island, South Jersey, and Malta House.
Upper management has jokingly called me the “Happy Shopper of Good Counsel” and ”the host with the most.” When I was told about the job at Good Counsel, several people said to me, “We know how you love kids and babies.” Seventeen plus years later that still holds true.
In my time at Good Counsel, I have formed relations with ex-residents, donors and other community agencies. I always say that the key is to know someone that knows someone in order to make things happen. From the hugs from the toddler, and when they are able to say your name correctly, to the new babies when they first smile at you, because they are seeing angels, to when you get emotional about something that may be going on in the moms’ lives, to moms calling you up to say “Thank You” for what was done for them at Good Counsel. These are some of the things that keep me going.
However, the one thing that those who know me best is that I am a giving person, whether it be resources or time. If it is within my being, I will do it. I always say to my co-workers, “A closed hand can’t receive – nothing goes in and nothing goes out.” This is why I continue to be blessed.
