At Good Counsel, we offer more than just shelter and food—we provide a family and a forever safety net for mothers who often have never had anyone to support them. The journey from crisis to stability isn’t easy, but no mother walks it alone. The love and guidance they receive don’t just last for the time they’re here—it stays with them long after they move on.

One mom recently shared her story of triumph:

💙 “I was a resident at Good Counsel for about six months. I recently moved into my own apartment. It wasn’t easy to get there—there were a lot of tears—but the Good Counsel staff walked with me every step of the way. They encouraged me, worked with me to accomplish my goals, and kept me motivated. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Asher, and he has never gone without because my family at Good Counsel provided everything he needed. I am forever grateful for Good Counsel—the staff and even the volunteers—because they are my family now. May I mention how proud I feel putting the key in my door and having my kids all together again? Thank you so much, Good Counsel Riverside, for always believing in me—even when I didn’t.”

This is what Good Counsel does—we lift families out of generational poverty and homelessness, helping mothers become strong, self-sufficient, and full of hope for the future.

And the support doesn’t end when they walk out our doors. Many moms return—not because they need help, but because they want to give thanks. Devon, a mom who left Good Counsel’s program a few months ago to strike out on her own with her children, recently sent a heartfelt message to Mrs. B, our Staten Island house manager:
