We’ve been celebrating the birth of Mia Rose for a while now – which is just fine because sharing the journey that each mother takes while she’s here at Good Counsel is cause for celebration!  Many moms stay in touch with Good Counsel after they complete the program and we are always excited to hear from Mia Rose’s mom, Genesis.

Genesis came to Good Counsel with her son, Noah, when she was just a few weeks pregnant.  While awaiting Mia Rose’s arrival, Genesis stayed busy attending Life Skills classes, working as a waitress, and preparing for a new life.  She met with her case manager weekly to make plans and set goals for her future and the future of her family.  Genesis’ older son, Noah, was busy too - working hard at Preschool.  We were blessed to celebrate his “Stepping Up” day, complete with cap and gown and a Certificate of Achievement.

Genesis continued taking steps toward an independent and stable life after Good Counsel.  Recently she told us that she is going to be moving into a new apartment very soon and Noah and Mia Rose, as kids do, are growing quickly.

Reflecting on her time at Good Counsel, Genesis said, “One of my favorite days was Thanksgiving.  It felt like I was a part of a family.  Everybody was so united.”  The feeling of family is always at the forefront of what we do because Good Counsel is so much more than a shelter; it is a home offering love, hope, and encouragement.

Genesis recently shared some new photos with us of Mia Rose at 8 months, at her daycare, and with her big brother.
