As the COO of a maternity home, Vanessa has been present at the birth of countless children, and walked alongside their mothers through pregnancy and all life has thrown their way. Now returning from her own maternity leave, a newly minted mama herself, Vanessa shares with us a deeper insight to the true value of having the support system a maternity home can provide when your own natural support system isn't available.

As I embrace the joys and challenges of being a new mom, I am filled with an even greater sense of purpose and connection to the incredible mothers we serve at Good Counsel. I am sure many of us can think about our own birth stories, the first week, the first month and all the new firsts that parenthood carries. This personal journey has deepened my understanding and empathy, enhancing my ability to provide exceptional service to the homeless mothers in our care.

One of the most critical aspects of our program is the hands-on support provided by our dedicated staff. As new parents, my husband and I have come to appreciate the immense value of our own personal supportive network. The encouragement, guidance, and practical assistance from our staff are indispensable in helping our Good Counsel mothers navigate the complexities of motherhood.

Without our program, many of these vulnerable women would face overwhelming challenges alone. Experiencing the wonderfulness of motherhood firsthand—the sleepless nights, the tender moments, and the profound bond with my baby—has allowed me to see the bravery required of our moms to seek help.

As we continue our work, I am inspired by the resilience and courage of the mothers in our program. With your support, we can ensure that every mother receives the care and opportunities she deserves. Together, we can make a lasting impact, helping these women and their children build a better future.
