2 Bronx Babies born 8 minutes apart at 2 different hospitals!
We talk a lot about how Good Counsel isn’t just a shelter, it’s a home. We also talk a lot about how the mothers, babies, staff, and volunteers are like a family, often times a very tight-knit family.
That closeness was illustrated at the Bronx home on September 7th as two moms went into labor at the same time! Each mom was transported to the hospital – but not the same hospital. Once they arrived at different hospitals, they gave birth to their babies within 8 minutes of each other!
Mom Bianca was first, giving birth to her baby girl, Jaymea at 10:50 a.m. Jaymea weighed 7 pounds, 5.4 ounces. Bianca is from Honduras and has been at Good Counsel for about six months, along with her 2-year-old son. She was thinking about abortion until she came to Good Counsel where she changed her mind. Bianca has stated that Good Counsel "saved her newborn's life" and that her new baby, Jaymea, "is a blessing."
Her house mate, Linditia followed her at 10:58 a.m. giving birth to her baby boy, David. David weighed 6 pounds 2, ounces. Linditia is originally from Albania and has been at the Bronx home for about one month. She is happy that David will be a U.S. Citizen like she is. Staff at the Bronx home state that Linditia is a very strong mom, having baby David via C-section refusing all medications. She was up walking and talking with the nurses the next day. Linditia said, "David is a blessing and a miracle" due to her age and a previous miscarriage.
Both moms and babies are doing well currently and are back home in the Bronx. We ask for your prayers for both of these moms and their new babies.
Along with celebrating 1,089 (and counting!) babies, we also celebrate our ability to provide countless nights of shelter, thousands of Life Skills classes, and hundreds of hours counseling, guiding each mother as she journeys from despair to hope.
