Betrayed: A Good Friday Reflection

How can the All Powerful, All Knowing, Ever Present, Supreme Being without beginning or end, die?

Death to God?

Not one disciple, not one of the closest people on the face of the earth at the time knew, and certainly could not believe, that Jesus would rise again. Death meant death. Ever feel like your life is at an end? Like there is no future? Like you’d rather be dead?

Many women who become pregnant and find themselves abandoned by “the one who said I love you” and by all in their family, not having one single friend willing to help, look into this void and think: my life is over.

At the time He was betrayed...

At Catholic Mass these words are said, and it hit me: “Betrayed!”

How often have I betrayed God? How often have I denied Him? Myriad.

Farrah was betrayed. Her parents made her have an abortion from her first pregnancy when she was still in high school. When she became pregnant again, the father of their child offered to pay for an abortion. She refused. He stopped calling her. None of her friends wanted to help. She went online and found Good Counsel.

You unite yourself with Christ as you help others.

At the time Jesus “was betrayed, and entered willingly into His Passion,” the priest says, “He took bread and giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying: ‘Take this all of you, and eat of it, for this is My Body, which will be given up for you.’” (Luke 22:19)

On this Good Friday, prayers for you, your family, all who are suffering because of the coronavirus. Praying for every mother and baby, born and waiting to be born. Lord help us all.

Peace,

Chris
