When Mia Rose was born, her mom, Genesis, said, “She is so gorgeous.  You should see her, she is so pretty.  I am in love with her.”  Everyone at Good Counsel celebrated Mia Rose's birth in a special way because she was the 1,000th baby born into the Good Counsel family.

Mia Rose has been a special blessing to Good Counsel.  Mom Genesis' willingness to share her story, allowing us to check in during her stay with us, and even now, she keeps in touch sending us updates from time to time.  Her continued contact with Good Counsel affords a unique opportunity to see the tangible results of what Good Counsel can do for a homeless, pregnant mother, to witness her journey from despair to hope.

Mia Rose's ultrasound and baby picture were the perfect choice for the "Texting with God" video which imagines what an unborn baby would say to God with this new technology.  It makes for good video, but rest assured that God has the same message for every precious life, text or no.

Genesis came to Good Counsel with her son, Noah, when she was just a few weeks pregnant.  While awaiting Mia Rose’s arrival, Genesis stayed busy attending Life Skills classes, working as a waitress, and preparing for a new life.  She met with her case manager weekly to make plans and set goals for her future and the future of her family.  Genesis’ older son, Noah, was busy too - working hard at Preschool.  We were blessed to celebrate his “Stepping Up” day, complete with cap and gown and a Certificate of Achievement.

Genesis continued taking steps toward an independent and stable life after Good Counsel.  Reflecting on her time at Good Counsel, Genesis said, “One of my favorite days was Thanksgiving.  It felt like I was a part of a family.  Everybody was so united.”  The feeling of family is always at the forefront of what we do because Good Counsel is so much more than a shelter; it is a home offering love, hope, and encouragement.
