Homeless, pregnant women, including mothers with mental health or addiction challenges, are not expendable. They need a home and a heart, not just a shelter. They need a safe place – away from the daily struggles that weigh heavily on them – so they can provide a solid foundation for themselves and their children.

Good Counsel provides pregnant women in need with a real, loving home. Our staff strives to teach them how to overcome their difficult circumstances, to become productive members of their community, and to break the cycle of homelessness.

Expectant or new moms are offered a stable environment in which they can pursue their goals in education and employment. In the meantime, their children are cared for at one of Good Counsel’s daycares.

As I was writing this, I received word that Good Counsel’s 19th baby this year has been born. This makes 1,223 births since opening 35 years ago! Only because of your generosity are women and their babies able to receive the love, compassion, and care that is deserved by all.

This is no small feat. Although the love shown to our moms and babies is free and truly invaluable, there are many expenses for the 44 women and their children currently in our care. To provide a home, life and parenting skills, food, daycare for the babies, as well as the support they require, costs nearly $500,000 each month. The summer months are especially difficult because people often do not give as much.
